Lott is still the one who stepped down, and the GOP is still the party that asked him to. Why is the GOP so quick to fold on such issues, and to whine so much about it. Truman had a sign on desk that said 'The Buck Stops Here', and he is also known for 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen'. Surely the GOP had lots of support on 'right wing radio', so what's to complain about ?
Another issue is that the major media isn't liberal, as they certainly didn't ask the hard questions about Iraq and pursue the issues that we're grappling with now. A good one is why after 9/11, when all aircraft were grounded, Bush let Saudis and the bin Ladens fly out of the country without proper interrogation. The media is in the business of SELLING news, so they aren't going to lose business by being too liberal for their reading public. We expect the media to break important, unpopular stories, but a continued, decided liberal slant won't sell enough to keep the big operations in business. If the media appears to be liberal it's because your political views are outside of the politically centered views that result in the most customers for the major media organizations. Smaller media organizations that aren't trying to be all things to all people and tenured professers are some of the few who can afford to ignore the political climate.
