OIL Mobil 1 TDT 5W-40

REPORT DATE 10/22/09

MI/HR on Oil 4550

MI/HR on Unit 54303

Sample Date 10/03/09

Make Up Oil Added 0 qts

Comments:

You shortened your oil use to 4,550 miles and there was a significant improvement in iron,

which comes from steel parts. All of the wear metals in this sample read below universal

averages and were in balance to one another indicating normally wearing parts at 54,303

miles. The oil's viscosity was a little low again measuring in the SAE 30W range. No gasoline,

moisture or any signs of anti-freeze were present in the sample. The TBN was 6.0, this

time. Sodium also dropped to a reasonable 8 ppm. All in all, a good report. Try ~6,000 miles

for your next sample.

Gotta be CJ-4, huh?

Engine really beat-down the visc. of this oil. Suprised to see that from TDT, but the 2.0T engines are hard on oil.

TBN says you could go a lot further, at least 7500 miles.

We still don't have the CJ-4 formula in my town. Walmart still has all CI-4 Plus jugs. The Delvac 1 I just got is CI-4 Plus. That's why I ask. That, and the additive levels look different than my 12,000Km UOA from the Expedition on TDT.

Its CJ with the calcium being as low as it is and Mag being high. Oil did really well considering its DI.

I'd be using RTS 5W-40. Looks to be the better oil. It is known to shear dowwn to about 13.4-13.8, but this stuff isn't acceptable shearing to 11.0 cst. RTS 5W-40 also has 1200/1000 ppm zinc/phosphorus. I didn't think TDT would be as low as it is. And I'm talking about RTS 5W-40 CJ4. It has the Calcium/Magnesium set up like this oil, too. Must be the new thing.

FWIW, the visc on my TDT OCI from the Expedition was at 15.4 after 12,000Km......

Zinc and Phos were 948/845 respectively. That was CI-4 Plus.

I also doubt Rotella would do any better in this application. Though I think a CI-4 Plus version of TDT or Delvac 1 might.........

Remember, the purpose of higher viscosity is to reduce wear. So, as long as wear rates remain low, I'm going to stick with Mobil1 TDT.
