I'm finally going from dino to Mobil1 this weekend.I picked up 6 quarts of the regular Mobil1 10W30 last weekend at Super Target for $3.19 a quart. They were out of the new EP.Anyway,is it true that I should go 3k miles then change the oil again, due to the Mobil1 cleaning my engine?

It probably depends how clean your engine is already. I wouldn't count on oil (any oil) cleaning your engine that much. If the engine is dirty , I'd use autoRX or Neutra to help clean it first.

I'd recommend you simply change oil filters @ 3000 and 6000 miles (topping off afterwards), and keep running the same batch of oil out to say 10,000 miles before draining it.

Frequent oil filter changes will allow you to capture most of the insoluble organic particles that are cleaned out by the Mobil 1 and held suspended in the oil. So there really is no need to change it out early. It is actually more desirable to let this first batch of synthetic stay in there a long time and clean the engine.

I've been recommending this procedure to my local customers for years with excellent results.

I don't believe in snake oil additives.

I would run the Mobil 1 10,000 miles or 6 months and use a first quality filter (Mobil 1 or Pure One).
