I usually just go over to the automotive section at Target and laugh. Today, I went over to it at a Target Greatlanbd and noticed that the Mobil1 oil was priced at $3.39. Not sure if this was a pricing error, as I went to a regular Target and the price was around $4.39.

A Target in my area occasionally cleans out it's inventory. When it does this, it sells M1 at $3.39 per qt until it sells out. Then, when the new shipment comes in, it's back to the regular price.

Funny thing is that last time they did this, the neighboring Wal-Mart must have done a price check as it started selling M1 at $3.38 per qt.

I've noticed the same thing as Chris A. My local Super Target has put Mobil One on sale for as low as $2.94/qt. During that time the plain old Targets still had it at over $4.00/qt.

I think if certain SKU's are not turning as fast as needed, individual stores can lower prices to blow out inventory. Its also possible that the price drop is a tactic to increase floor traffic to certain sections of the store. Hard to say; I don't know Target's retail pricing structure.

Anyway, its a good deal for those who use M1 so ya might as well stock up while the gettin' is good.

But a bargin is a bargin...too bad all my store carried was 15w-40. Doesn't work too well in a Protege5 or Ford Escort....

So a 17 year old stockboy tries to intimidate anyone??

When the price of Mobil 1 is discussed on this forum it is always much higher than the regular Wal Mart price in Brainerd, Mn. (actually Baxter).
It makes me want to run out and buy all they have on hand (but alas, I cannot afford that).
Their regular price for the last several years, and still is as of today, $3.37 a quart, in all grades that Mobil 1 comes in.

Good Day,

P.S.
I hope no Wal Mart exec's read this site.

Yes, $3.37 a quart, I have it right here on the receipt from today.
Please don't buy all of it, save me a little.

Good Day,
Steven

dwm...

You bring up an excellent point! I remember when Target used to have a reasonably supplied oil section (could find Havoline Synthetic 5W40 when no one else seemed to carry it). Now, like you, I go by and just shake my head...if you don't like "Car & Driver" branded products, you're left with not many choices...

No need for me to drive up. I get a 10% discount at Target and today they had plenty of 5w-30. $3.07 a quart....as cheap as Walmart SuperTech 5w-30 Synthetic...
