Subject: The Saab/Mobil National Account Program, PTS-04-024

We are pleased to announce a new national alliance program between Saab Cars
USA, Inc. and Exxon-Mobil Corporation that will allow you to provide your
customers premium Mobil products at very competitive prices. This new
venture will equip Saab Dealers with a comprehensive selection of products
and distribution methods that only a major oil company such as Exxon-Mobil
can support. New items will include conventional motor oil in addition to
the semi and full synthetic types already in use. Distribution is now
possible in fifty-five gallon drums and bulk delivery, which can include
interest-free equipment loans.

Once enrolled in the program you will be able to purchase Mobil 1 0W-40
European Car Formula which meets the demanding Saab GM-LL-A-025
specification. Also available are the Mobil Drive Clean Plus 5W-30 Synthetic
Blend, and Mobil Drive Clean 5W-30 conventional motor oil for the 9-2X as
well as the upcoming 9-7X. A representative from Exxon-Mobil or their
authorized distributor will be contacting you shortly so you can take
advantage of this program.

I wonder why they are going to use non synthetic in the 2.0T 9-2X? Do you think 0W-40 comes in drums?

GM was susidizing the cost of the first imported ELF 0w-30 " gold bottle' and the later Mobil Long Life 0w-30 " blue bottle' and the specificly made for Saab by Mobil EU Syn Blend 5w-30 .

Now the dealers are purchasing the Mobil 0w-40 and N American Mobil Syn Blend directly from the local Mobil distributors by the quarts/cases .

It appears the reasoning for change was financial . I picked up a good bit of the 15.00 4 liter jugs of the Elf 0w-30 while still available for the 4.6 Ford we own . Bought a good bit of the imported syn blend also .

I kinda wish I had not since I like the Synergyn 3w-30 so much better but the Ford Modular don't much care what it uses as long as it's not over around 10.5 cSt's so Saab oil till dooms day for that one .

As to your question about using the new Mobil Drive Clean in the 2.0T 9-2X I would assume they have tested it and it's up to the task .

Subaru has always been against synthetics. They used to have a TSB that prohibited use of synthetics by dealers. A few years ago they did relax their position a bit, releasing a TSB that reluctantly permitted the use of synthetics as long as recommended OCIs are kept. My personal Subarus love non-synthetic oil, confirmed by UOA results. This new information from SAAB confirms my conviction.

Just to clarify, the 92x is a rebadged Subaru Impreza. The post above would be confusing to people who don't know that.

Yes, they are sharing. They have a common parent (GM).

"Automotive News / July 08, 2004

TOKYO -- Subaru-maker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. and Sweden's Saab will co-develop a new high-end crossover vehicle in their second joint vehicle project, the companies said on Thursday.

Fuji Heavy will build the crossover for Saab at Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) in Lafayette, Ind., for sale likely in the United States.

The project marks an expansion of the two GM group companies' cooperation initiated last year, and follows the launch this month of the Saab 9-2X sports compact, which is built by Subaru based on its Impreza WRX model. GM owns 100 percent of Saab and has a 20 percent stake in the Japanese automaker. "

The blurb doesn't say it's for the 2.0T. The 9²X will be offered in both a turbo & non-turbo (2.5L? base) configuration. I'd guess the non syn is slated for this base engine model. (And possibly syn blend for the 2.0T?) I don't know if the SUV model will ever offer a turbo option.

If the 9²X is their first collaboration, what is the "new high-end crossover vehicle in their second joint vehicle project"?
