Mobil 1 vs Amsoil (API tests)

I don't know if this version of Mobil 1 tested was Group III based. It's been said that they could have changed to Group III from the latest PDS. The two oils are extremely close in specs.

Well, I had to put my glasses on, but seems the tests were run in Jun 2005. To me, it shows that the Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a very good oil, an improvement over the regular Mobil 1 (which is also very good).

Its amazing how poor PP did yet their used oil analysis on here are great. I was impressed with the CCS viscocity of 3919 @ -25 degrees for PP since 90% of the wear is startup wear. Just goes to show that charts are just charts. Just like in sports, a team may look great on paper but it all depends on performance to see if they are contenders or pretenders.

of the 7 tests, PP finished in the top 4 on 4 of them & missed on another 1 @ 6th.

I say for the money, PP acquitted itself nicely & the used oil analysis backs it up.

I'm just wondering if Mobil 1 Extended Performance's cold flow of 57.6F (Amsoil 58F) is possible using a Group III?

Hasn't PP been reformulated for even better performance since this test anyways?

Buster in those temp. realms I must think Group Iv - but some Group III's are good......with some PP agent additives.

Based on Amsoil's Noak numbers, I highly doubt Amsoil is using any Group III in the mix. I could be wrong, but usually volatility gives you some indication of the baseoil.

This testing is a year and a half old. A lot can change in that amount of time.
