Before this oil, I had Delvac 1 in the sump. I was driving down the highway and my drain plug came loose and dumped that very expensive Delvac all over the highway. I got a new plug and filled the bike with 3.5 quarts of Mobil 1 T&SUV and .5 quarts of Rotella synthetic. The UOA above is the T&SUV/Rotella mix.

Fuel Tanker Man, I just noticed you are from Wytheville. I'm orginally from Dublin but live in North Carolina now. Both sides of my family are from Wythe County orginally, Blair and Melton. My mom still owns lots of property next to the Shot Tower.

no wondering about it.
the 8:1 ratio does NOT work in a motorcycle gearbox. it shears down quickly.
nicrfe lives in a winter state, he isn't gonna ride a zx11 in the ice/snow anyway, so 5wXX is not needed for cold starts. he should use a better oil in the summer when he is riding. 10w30, 10w40, 15w40, 15w50, 20w50. i would recommend nothing lighter than 10w40 and really recommend something like Shell Rotella T 15w40 (white jug, 7.94 at walmart 5qt) for his high hp zx11.

Right now I have Delvac 1 in my sump, and the next thing I'm putting in there is Amsoil's new 10W-40 motorcycle oil. I'm excited to try that out.

will you do a UOA on the delvac 1?
if so, at how many miles?

i wouldn't get all the excited about the amsoil, the previous formula sheared down quickly.

I think we're jumping to some conclusions, folks. T&SUV starts out at around 14.8 cSt @ 100 C, and we're now seeing it at around 12.4. Remember, the lower limit is 12.5 for a 40-weight, so this figure is within the margin of error, i.e. it's probably still a 40-weight. Also remember than M1 oils will initially shear down and then start thickening again.

What we're seeing here is one snapshot early in the life of the oil. We don't even have a TBN to know the condition of the add pack.

Don't judge an oil in a particular application by just one measurement.

8x5=40 therefore 8:1

Not that the 5, and 40 have any bearing on a ratio.

I think that he refers to a high viscosity index.

===========
If 5w-40 is 8 to 1, then is 0w-40 an infinity ratio?
