Dear All, For quite a while already I have been looking for a distributor for the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF lubricant in Europe (Germany). Unfortunately, this ATF oil seems to be distributed only within the US and Canada, based on a statement I received from Exxon Mobil. Is there a specific reason for this? Does anyone know whether this oil is available in Europe with a different name? Since this is my first post in this forum, I hope this question had not been answered already - at least I have not found any?! Thanks and Cheers, Philipp

Welcome, Philipp. I don't know the answers to your questions, but I wanted to let you know that you're not being ignored. I suspect ExxonMobil does not bother selling Mobil 1 ATF in Europe because the ATF market is much smaller there. Here, 96% of vehicles are sold with automatic transmissions, so almost everybody needs ATF. There are some users here who are quite fond of Mobil 1 ATF, but I cannot think of an application where I wouldn't be able to find a cheaper alternative that would perform just as well. If you would like recommendations, let us know the application for which you are looking for a fluid.

Thank you for your answer. Actually I am looking for an ATF oil for my E39 540iA, which has a ZF 5HP24 transmission (at currently 60,000 km). I would immediately use the Mobil 1 ATF if it was available. My secondary choice is Liqui Moly - but I have to ask which one my mechanic normally uses?! If you have recommendations for a specific ATF for this transmission please let me know. Cheers, Philipp

If Mobil 1 ATF is not available in Germany, then I would use Liqui Moly. Liqui Moly(is Lubro Moly in USA and Canada) is popular here. I don't know of any bad product from Liqui Moly.

From Castrol.de Spezialprodukt, bitte auf Originalersatzteil des Herstellers zurückgreifen! You maybe able to use a multi vehicle Dex/Mercon V transmission fluid but look at the specs carefully.

I think this trans uses Mobil (Esso) LT 71141. There are lots of choices for alternatives for that fluid. Here in the US, I would probably use the Castrol multi-vehicle product. I think the Liqui-Moly product is Top Tec ATF 1200; I bet it's good stuff.

Well spoken! smile

Thanks a lot for your answers. In the meantime, my mechanic told me, that he is using Liqui Moly ATF 1200, which is unfortunately only a semi-synthtic oil. Of course, I will have a look at the specs (where the 5HP24 requires the BMW 71171) if I should use a different one. By the way: does anyone adhoc know the shipping costs (to Germany) of two 6 packs of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF? Maybe this way I could aquire the Mobil 1 oil laugh Although I could imagine that the shipping costs will be higher than the costs of the oil itself?! Cheers, Philipp
