I just bought some Mobil 1 quart bottles of 5W-30 super-syn. On the back label it says it meets the A1/B1 specifications. On a 5 quart bottle I bought 2 weeks ago that is 5W-30 Super-Syn it says it meets specifications of A1/B1/A5/B5. I assume it is the same oil in both bottles. Could it be that Mobil 1 dropped the A5/B5 spec. because they are coming out with the new extended drain 15000 mile oil?
Does anyone have any info on this.

A1 Fuel economy petrol
A2 Standard performance level
A3 High performance and/or extended drain
A4 Reserved for future use in certain direct injection engines
A5 Combines A1 fuel economy with A3 performance

I tried to go to mobil1.com just now and it redirected me to their main page, where there is new info about the new oils. This JUST happened, as last week I was browsing that site.

Happened to me too.Now is use this LINK

The new GF-4 5w-30 doesn't meet the A5/B5 but the 10w-30 does. I would guess that the 5w-30 is not quite as shear stable as the 10w-30, hence the A1/B1 rating only.

Hmmm,

It says on Mobils website that it IS A1,B1,A5,B5

See here --> mobil 1 5w-30

Wonder whats up?

I think it is probably more shear stable. It's probably just a problem struggling with the Starburst vs. ACEA ratings required for the "Energy Saving" claims. ACEA has different requirements and a different reference oil to qualify against.
