Mobil 1 now has "Fiat Chrysler Automotive MS-6395" specification

Exxonmobil Tech Line gave me a very detailed response on this matter last month, but I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to post the full e-mail on here, so I did not. In summary, Mobil has been running the FCA required testing for many months now and was expecting to receive formal FCA approval around Q2 of this year. It looks like this happened sooner than expected.

I am curious if every brand claiming MS-6395 compliance is actually seeking formal FCA approval. The language used is very ambiguous and I strongly suspect that some brands (especially house brands) are playing the "meets or exceeds" game with this spec.
 
What oil brands on the shelf were already FCA approved? What requirements do they have that off the shelf oils wouldn't have?

Pretty much all major brands were compliant: Pennzoil (obviously being the recommended one), the cousin Quaker State, Valvoline, Havoline and so on. The 2 major missing brands were Mobil 1 and Castrol (Edge actually has that specification for the 5W-20 weight but not for the 0W-20).
 
Here's hoping they get some MS-12633 approval for SRT's under warranty.

That is good to know. I have at least one more oil change of Valvoline left so it will be 1.5 for me to decide. I run all Mobil products for years but since certification wasn't there I went elsewhere. Exxon card so Exxon gas as well as Mobil 1 filters. I just might decide to go all Exxon Mobil in the future. So far in Caravan I have run Napa, Pennzoil, Havoline and Valvoline within the first 20k. Just checked and Walmart has 12 qt box for just under 50.00 or 4.17 a qt. Would have to transfer to bottle but that is 2 oil changes.

I suspect some housebrands actually repackage an oil that meets specs and has approvals.

So what changed? Easy. The merger. Stellantis has a different point of view than FCA. FCA, due to political business reasons, would not allow Mobil 1 to have the certification, even though the oils would achieve it with ease.

I've been running M1 in my Jeeps from when they previously met it and just yesterday dumped 5 quarts of 0w20 AFE into my 2018 Jeep JL and 6 quarts of the same into my cousin's 2018 JK. The SP bottles were not yet labeled with MS6395, but I'm sure new stock will be just that.

This is my first run of AFE, btw, so we'll see how it looks on a UOA after about 5k and a trip to Moab with some long hard days off-road. I'd bet it will look great.

I'm particularly interested because we have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Pentastar requiring 0w-20.
I'm sure the oil was compliant even before they added this, but now is official.

Finally they do this when I decide to move to Super Tech in the van... I have been chasing Mobil Super Synthetic for the last ~4 years for this silly van and now they make the regular stuff approved... :ROFLMAO:

It doesn't look like they have approval yet, the product data sheet for the Mobil 1 products list MS-6395 in the "recommended for use" section, not the "meets or exceeds" section.

In my opinion "recommended for use" does not mean it is approved.

I stand corrected. I missed the “recommend for” heading. Regardless, I was advised that formal approval is coming and we should expect it this year.
