2023 silverado 5.3L 25k miles
unknown in service mileage, 25% remaining on OLM

out/off: 8 quarts Valvoline Advance FS 0w-20 with M1-212a

in/on: 8 quarts Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 with Carquest Premium 84502 (PG with silicone gasket)

he is wanting to stick with 0w-20 due to warranty and supplied the oil. I advised to move to either Valvoline EP 0w-20 or Mobil 1 EP 0w-20 for the next change. he had bought another M1-212a that i told him to return and used a Carquest Premium instead. filter looks okay and didn’t tear.

What is wrong with Pennzoil Platinum? Why advise against it?

i think there is better oil for the money. i like PUP just not platinum.
Thank you for the c&p!
If this is a shop customer, I don't understand and would caution against the oil brand advice - unless specifically asked.

I know it's a Ford grade, but any 5W20 available meeting D1G3?
That might be the better advice given your climate.

p.s.: I am with you, not a PP fan having tried it a few times in ILSAC GF-4 and 5; Asian vehicles I serviced drank it like free Scorpion bowl refills on a Saturday night. No valid data, just anecdotes.
