Mobil has always had a date code on the bottom of the bottle, it is just in a floursecent ink, seen best with a blacklight.

Or is it an actual date and not some code?

It's possible to see the date on the old Mobil 1....if your turn the bottle slightly to the light.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before on here (I haven't noticed it) but when I was at Walmart this morning I noticed we have a new bottle design for Mobil 1 in Canada now, and right on the front of the bottle it has a date printed on it, which I assume must be the date of manufacture. Most of the stuff I saw on the shelf was made around the end of September to the middle of October.

I thought that was pretty cool of them to do this, even though I'll never use their oil.

but I thought you guys would find this funny.. tonight while looking at the M1 in walmart there were these two old looking bottles sitting there, so I checked the rating and they were SJ

blupupher, it's an actual date printed front and center on the top of the bottle! It's not in any sort of code, it's perfectly easy to figure out, for example it'll say Sept 25, 2005 on one of them.
