Has A40 approval which I didn’t know about.

Any reason not to use this over Mobil 1 0w40? Don’t care about the cost. I do like the higher HTHS. Anyone know the NOACK?

Most of the time I drive my 718 2.5 GTS there is some red lining after it’s warmed up. A track day or two in between annual oil changes but far below the 10k distance.

Noack limit for MB229.3 and Porsce A40 is I think 13%. It will be definitely higher than Mobil 1 0W40.
You are not limited to Mobil 1. Motul X-Cess 5W40 has HTHS of 3.8cP.
If you track, you might consider Motul 300V 5W40. HTHS 4.1cP, KV100 13.5. So, it has far lower KV100 than this Mobil 1 5W50, almost same HTHS, and 300V will be far more shear stable. But, it is expensive and I would not keep it longer than 5k.

I think the Motul XCess Gen 2 5w40 is probably what I'm going to change to because it has some more flexibility in case I go on a road trip or something. Seems like they made some big improvements on the gen2 with TBN.

Mobil1 FS X2 5w-50 has Porsche A40 approval continuing until next July according to the most recent certificate of approved oils:

And a 5w-50 oil should flow down to -22f because of the 5w- part of the rating. If I were you in southern California, the FS X2 5w-50 would be right at the top of my list in a Porsche that requires an A40 oil.

I trust Mobil or XOM, whatever they are called over Porsche or BMW. The only thing I can say about Mobil, is list the HTHS and NOACK Numbers for all of your oils. Also, put a SDS Sheet out for all of their oil's.

I knew a neighbor that had a 1997 Porsche 911, it might have been the last hand-built Porsche. Anyway, his engine was Air-cooled, and the oil capacity was 12 quarts, he was using Brad Penn Oil.

The approvals are very important and Mobil makes the oils to meet them. Not the other way around.

I have the 5w50 fs x2 in my 911 now. Pretty sure it will shear to 5w40 in my application based on the info in this or another video by Lake Speed Jr.
