Mobil 1 for new Chevy 5.3 engine?

I have 2003 Silverado 5.3L Z71.. I used to have a 200 Camaro SS with an 5.7L LS1.. I have installed several sets of aftermarket heads on those cars.. some on cars with M1 and some on cars without... The cars without M1 diffinately had more sludge and deposit buildup than on those with M1.. Therefore, I only use M1 in my vehicles now... My truck had 985 miles on the factory fill oil before being swapped out to M1.. and I plan on changing it every 3k miles...

I have a 2001 GMC SLT Z71 E. Cab with the 5.3L engine. It has 36,000 miles and I have never have to add any oil to it.

I also have a 2002 Firebird Trans Am WS6 with 11,000 miles and never has the oil level gone down. Never.


The truck is running Amsoil 0W-30 and the Trans Am is running Amsoil 10W-30. The oil us changed once per year in both vehicles irregardless of the mile. The truck has gone over 10,000 miles on the oil but the car does not see that much use.

I also had a company vehicle, a 1999 K2500 Suburban with 5.7 Vortec engine. In the 95,000 miles I drove that SUV, I never once had to add oil between the 5,000 miles oil changes dictated by my Org. Several occasions, it would be 1/2 to 3/4 qt low but I never added to it.

The hash mark area on the dipstick is the safe range, if the oil falls in that range you are OK. This mentality that you must maintain an exact amount if foolish. The engine cannot tell if its 5.5 qts or 6 qt in there.

I have 34k on my 02 5.3 silverado. Been using AMSOIL 0w-30 since 5k miles. My first change was a foolish one to let it go so long with close to 14k miles on it but I never had to add oil. So far I don't have to add any oil.

I'm having the same no oil useage luck with our 3.4 2002 Venture, although the heads had to be machined because they were warped and I was getting exhaust in my coolant but that is a different story.

Now I have talked to several that have the 8.1 and the 6.0 that are using oil but nobody with the 5.3

I have a 00 Silverado with 45000 miles. I switched to Mobil 1 0-30 at 35000 and it used 1/2 quart. The next interval was Mobil 1 10-30 5000 miles same 1/2 quart consumption.

Before the Mobil 1 I used Castrol GTX 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer. I didnt notice any comsumption, however I used a 2000 mile oil change interval.
