Holy crap, I never thought I would see the day. I was down at the local Walmart, and noticed my GC is sitting at the same price as always, $6.66 cdn, looked over and saw all the Mobil 1 supersyn products were $6.63, they used to sit around the $7.66 mark, also noticed the 4.4L jugs of Mobil 1 were a dollar or 2 cheaper then the 4L jugs of Syntec (I could swear $24 and change for the 4.4L jug, compared to $26 and change for the Syntec 4L jug). If the price stays this way, I may give Mobil 1 a try, once my stockpile of GC runs out. Is the Mobil 1 5W30 supersyn relativley good? or have people been experiencing problems with piston slap etc. and that is why the price has fallen?

The Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5w30 is relatively good and better than their 0w-30. For your climate, it is fine. Mobil 1 runs on the thin side of 30 weight and the GC run on the heavy side of 30. Mobil 1's best weights are 10w30 and 15w-50. The GC has shown well in the used oil analysis (used oil analysis)so far.

Regarding WalMart and pricing, there has been debate on the board in the last 6 months about their pricing of oil. In the US for instance, Mobil 1 in the 5 quart/4.4L big bottle was $18.00 US for a while then back to the old price of $23.00 US. Walmart will lower it again to $18.00 and call it a price cut ("We are slashing prices" like their TV commercials say).

Vivisector ,

Sometimes Superstore/Extra Foods sells Mobil 1 for even less! Combined with a Superstore Gas Bar coupon you can pay significantly less. Also, if you can find a Wal-Mart flier with the cheap price advertised, go to the Partsource and they will match the price -10%. With these tactics I often pay less than $6.00 CDN for GC or Mobil 1.
