I have a G35 A/T with about 98k miles on it. I have had the transmission fluid drained/filled once at about 45k miles. I am looking at doing it again, but am hesitant to pay $11 for a quart of matic s at Nissan. I was looking at Mobil 1 synthetic since it is matic j compatable (matic s replaced matic j which was originally in the car). Could there be any possible adverse reaction from changing to a different atf this far along in the cars life? If I do change fluids what procedure should I follow, drain and fill or drain and fill 4 times with the new fluid (driving 20 or so miles each time to get the torque converter to empty), hopefully getting a 90% or so new fluid ratio? I am 100% against a machine flush.

The Mobil 1 ATF is an excellent fluid and I see no harm in using it. The drain and fill three or four time would be the best way to accomplish what you want to do.

I have used M1 ATF for many years and it is a fine transmission oil. I would do the drain and fill method. If you have a pan drain plug I would drop the pan and replace the filter, then maybe drain the pan after that a couple of times. If no drain plug you might be able to pump ATF from the fill tube a couple of times.

There is not filter per say, just a screen that needs to be replaced if damaged or torn. Taking the pan off is more than I plan on doing since it has a drain plug so I will try the M1 with the drain and fill. So there shouldn't be any problems with the friction modifiers in the Mobil 1 compared to the Matic S? Thanks for the help.
