Hello Everyone. I am Brand new to this forum. I wanted to post my sucess with Mobil 1 Synthetic. I have a 1987 Toyota 4x4 with 419,000 miles on the engine. I have run nothing but Mobil 1, and i have changed the oil and filter every 10,000 miles. I used an AC Delco filter every change. As of today, the engine does not leak, or burn a drop of oil, i simply change the oil, throw the cap on the bad boy and dont even worry about it. I just recently bought a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier and i am repeating this process, only changing the oil every 7500 miles instead of 10,000. This allows me to go by the "long trip" instructions in my manual. Just wanted to say that Mobil 1 has done wonders for me so far, and I am going to continue to use it.

Welcome! Sounds like M1 has worked great for you! Absolutely no reason to change oils with the cavy. [Smile]

Just for the sake of asking. What kind of repairs have you made to the engine? I'm not talking about alternator, water pump, etc., those will wear out. Have you had the intake, the heads, or the pan off for any reason? If you did, what did you see when you could visually examine the inside of the engine?

Those Toyota engines have the wonderful ability to run without spark plugs, coolant or any oil at all. Not really, however it is common the see those engines with such high miles, synthetic or not. Take one of those engines apart and study the design, the quality of the components and the general overall build quality and you will see why they last so long. Chris

I also have taken that into consideration. It is a really good engine, whichever way you look at it. I used 10w-30 with the toyota. With the cavalier im using 5w-30. I have a question myself... The mobil 1 website states that there 15w-50 motor oil has "more supersyn added" then the other viscosity grades, does that mean this oil would be superior for extended drains? Hmm.

Sold my '91 Toyota 4x4 (22re engine) in '02 with 387,000 + miles on it and it ran great I also used Mobil 1 15w50 and changed it at 10-12 K miles. I think it had a lot to do with it was a GREAT engine.

sold my 87 toy 22r (carburated) with 210,000 miles. changed out the timing chain due to plastic valve guides breaking and falling into oil pan. engine still ran fine and was reasonably clean. I used havoline 20w50 for the 100,000 miles I owned it ( former owner used gtx 20w50). 4-5k oci's. awesome engine. I have a 20r in pieces, often played with the idea of supercharging it and dropping it into my f-150 [Big Grin]

do you plan to do a UOA on the 400k vehicle? are you curious?

I have never done any work at all to the engine, so i cannot tell you. Some people laugh at me when i tell them that, likes its not possible at 400k+, but its true, I have not. Although my truck doesnt leak any oil enough to really tell, i have been having jumpin idles and once in a blue moon a rough start, so I'm pretty possitive that if i pull my plugs and take a look ones going to be oiled. But you know, a valve guide leak aint to bad at 409,000 miles. It might not even be that. My first oil change with Mobil 1 on the truck was the third change, at around 9,000 miles, just because i didnt know about it at the time. My 03 cavalier got it right away, like when there was 3000 miles on it, I didnt run the conventional for 3k to "wear the engine in" or any of the BS, i just didnt feel like wasting the oil, so i ran it to 3k and then went to M1. My friend has a 94 merc tracer, with that ford 1.9L in it, its at around i think 175k, and he also changes the oil every 10k with mobil 1. He uses Junk Fram filters too! I truely think this is the best oil you can use. (Yes I am aware of Amsoil claims. No Thanks.)

Mobil 1 is good stuff but those 22R motors are SUPER! My brother-in-law and I both bough new '87 Deluxe (base) model pickups new. My was black and his was red. My truck was stolen and never recovered about 4 months after I got it. He sold his truck with 287,000 on the clock. The truck was still running strong but the body was literally falling off the frame. He crashed his truck once and rolled it on its side (125K miles or so) and the truck was running for about a minute or lesson its side with no apparent damage. The kicker is my brother-in-law was not a maintenance fanatic. He changed the oil when he got around to it (probably every 5 or 10K) using cheap 5 or 10W30 and a filter. He sold that truck and took my truck which was an 89 V6 3.0 Toyota (I replaced my stolen truck with this one). This truck now has 250 or 260K on it and it is still running strong. The body is much better than the old style but that is starting to go now to. Those 22R motors are EXCELLENT!
