This is the fifth UOA I have run on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 Doublecab.

This UOA was done at 401,229 miles on 12/20/15 with 5279 miles on oil. Previous oil change at 395,928 miles was performed on 10/19/15.

This report was performed primarily as periodic check for engine issues as the truck passed the 400k milestone. All previous oil used in this truck has been Mobil 1, three fills Mobil 1 AFE 0W30 all other fills Mobil 1 EP 5W30.

Discussion of previous UOA's on this truck were in these four threads:

Looks good and very similar to the previous reports.

I have seen a lot of engines usually the 4.6 and 5.4 ford engines on construction vehicles in the 400,000 mile range some of these companies keep their trucks for 15-20 years and actually rebuild them and repaint them when they get run down but the engines last a long long time. The 4.0 Toyota is a good engine.

That's funny. The shop truck was a F-250 with the 4.6, and regularly serviced by our two full-time mechanics, and the owner is a believer in buying the recommended or premium fluids and filters (Amsol synthetics, Yamaha OEM, Motorcraft, etc). This particular truck, purchased new from the dealer, had Amsol Oil at regular Severe Service intervals (time or miles, whatever came first).

Motor blew on the highway pulling an empty horse trailer at 140,000 km (87,000 miles), out of warranty due to age. The only 4.6 we ever had, so no idea if that's bad luck or perfectly normal.

We replaced it with another Ford MY 2014; the owner is a lifetime "Ford Guy".

My experience with the Ford gas V8 engines is they really perform poorly, hard (or no) starting, long warmup loop, poorest fuel consumption, when used in a cold weather environment compared to the competition (RAM. GM, and full size Toyota). They seem OK if the mercury stays above freezing (although our engine failure incident was in July).

Below around -25F they really stand out vs other light and medium duty trucks, and not in a good way.

Nice 4.0 Toyota! I remember when the 4.0 came out the Toyota crowd was upset that the 3.4 was bye bye. Funny how people get over worked up.

Ford Mod engines: If its a 2v setup, it likely can last a long time. If its a 3v setup, sorry, but I have never seen one cross 200k miles. They are the best selling rebuilt engine from JASPER engines if that means anything to you.

Yeah, crazy oil was likely talking about the old modular 2V engines. Those are known to go 500k+up to around a million no problem.
Agree with others on this Toyota 4.0. No topup in 5k is amazing. I only get 2500/qt. Have you had to put any gaskets on this engine? I think most of my loss is though valve cover gaskets.

Your experience with Ford trucks is just opposite to the Fords my old company used. They were poorly maintained, driven hard, and often were way overloaded. Also the Ford 4.6 is well known for being a long lasting engine in many different applications.

John, this is some incredible stuff! If you ever get the chance to take pictures of the inside of this motor, PLEASE do so and share with us!

No, the gaskets have never been replaced. Engine is untouched except for idler pulleys, belt tensioner and a coil pack.

Very good results from a good, solid engine. I think Toyota did well with this one

Does your V6 have that annoying "Toyota Tick," or is it still quiet?

We have a Prado with the 1GR-FE, just 70,000km, about 44K miles. That thing, despite regular servicing and long highway runs, ticks noticeably. Almost like a push-rod or solid-lifter sound you might get from older vehicles when running normally.
