This is the second analysis I've had done on my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII.

The thread for the first analysis on this car is here:

I changed the air filter each time I change the oil, and put in a new Motorcraft filter. I believe that my air intake is properly sealed on this car.

I've had high silicon in all of the analysis I've had done on each one of my vehicles. Can some of this be attributed to the environment I drive in? Our house sits in a rural subdivision, and I have about a 1/2 mile drive on rock driveway and gravel/tar/asphalt roads before I get to a highway. Whenever it's dry, there is a lot of dust kicked up by the cars.

Thanks for looking. Comments and advice are appreciated.

what kind of air filter are you using? maybe try a better filtration air filter. changing the air filter each time you change the oil is very early.. air filters need changing like every 15,000 miles or more depending on the air filter. so im thinking its not that you need to change the air filter cause its full of dirt, but its probably more so that its allow dirt to enter(aka not filtering well enough). perhaps try the amsoil EAA

I'd guess dirt is definetly getting into the engine from the conditions you drive in, and the increased iron is abrasive wear.

If the intake system seals properly, and you cange the filter regularly, I don't know how you can get the number down - maybe leave the filter in for longer, and see if the dirt accumulation helps it filter better? some say that works....

Does this engine have cast iron camshafts with flat tappets? If so you shouldn't be using so thin oil. Si and Fe might be caused by the camshaft wear.

Look for an air leak directly into the crankcase, downstream from the air filter. Ck vacuum hoses, PCV hose/grommet, all connections in the air intake plumbing.

Absolutely not, the 32valve DOHC 4.6L engine in the Mark VIII has roller cam followers and hydraulic lash adjusters. 5w30 is fine, many people have also reported good results with 5w20.
