Hi
I am new in the forum, I am from Chile in South America and I have some questions about oils????

I have a Toyota 4Runner V6 year 04, and Toyota use syn blend 10-30 here in Chile where the weather is mediterranean, normal dry hot in summer and normal cold in winter, but not in the extrem warm and cold.

My issue is I putted syn Mobil 1 5w50 in my 4Runner, and I am feeling that the 4Runner is a little heavy and slow with its reactions, before I felt it that was more fast and light.

It is probably because 5-50 is too much dense than the original 10-30, what do you think I have to change for the original oil, or it is ok for my 4Runner??

Thanks

Caxtrol

Welcome to the forums.

I am surprised. I did not know that Mobil made a synthetic 5w-50 oil.

I am not trying to be rude, but what does your car manual or oil filler cap say about which oil to use? Does it recommend 5w30 or 10w30 or something else?

Thanks Stainless

Here in Chile Mobil 1 syn is 5-50, I do not know if it is Good or Bad for my engine.

Here technical service of Toyota use syn blend 10-30.

I did a mistake to use 5-50 in my Toyota 4Runner, or it will ok???

Thanks caxtrol

I am not sure. But i don't think you made a HORRIBLE mistake, but the next time you change the oil, pick a 10w30 you feel comfortable with. That's what I would do.

Hopefully others will be posting soon.

Caxtrol,
You did not make a horrible mistake in Central/North Europe the same 4Runners use 0W-40 or 5W-40 so you are only using a bit thicker oil, and you are in hotter climate, so no worries. You feel some slowness sluggishnes well you went two viscosity grades up so that might be it. If it was my car I would not worry to much plus I think it is summer down there now, just use something thinner next time and rest assured that Mobil 1 will protect your engine nicely.

I have heard that too thick oil does not lubricate too well especially value guides, lifter noise etc and such components. My experience has been with volvo.
