Mobil 1 15W50 EP

Is it SM rated because zinc and phosphorus look high ? Looks like a very good oil.
I don't think the SAE 15W-50 grade oils fall under the same ZDDP API restrictions.

When the 15W50 EP Gold cap came out and basically replaced the red cap, people bought it up and used in the same severe apps as the previous red cap. The adds for anti-wear were lower among some other changes and this had an adverse effect on some high stress engines that saw accelerated wear or just blew up unexpectedly (mostly racing stuff). A lot of people were turned away from Mobil 1 by this and moved on to something else. I say it was a blunder to suddenly discontinue the old red cap and lessen the toughness of a tried and true oil that folks have come to know and trust. I guess this new VOA shows they are now tacitly admitting the problem with the earlier EP formulation in this grade. On-the-fly changes like this and unreliable availability of certain grades of their products is a negative with Mobil 1 oils for me. I guess it's ok if you stock up when the stuff is available or on sale.

I was a continual user of the old red cap until they discontinued it.
You know what the pity is, even though they brought back the silver-cap 15W50, it's impossible to find. Every place that even stocks such a heavy oil sells only the EP version.
Costco tried the silver cap, only to find that the palettes mostly accumulated dust while everyone bought the 30 weights.
There is one specialty auto supply store that has pretty much all the Mobil 1 grades, including the ESP variants, but I'm not going to pay full price when there are other options that often go on sale.
To add to the misery, Pep Boys has now taken away one of the few available alternatives and will no longer carry Pennzoil Platinum 15W-50.

A trip to the closest Walmart will cost me $8 in fuel at today's prices. And sometimes they have the mother lode of oil choices, other times it's bare, so it would also be a gamble that might not pay off.
