I recently purchased a used 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with the 4.0L I6 with 147,000 miles on it. The dealer said he just changed the oil in it before I purchased it. After running it for awhile I decided to change the oil and filter since I didn't know what was in it. All I know is it had a mobil 1 filter. I used Quaker State Defy 5W-30 with a fram ultra filter. Since doing so, I became instantly more noisy. I know have a ticking sound and before I changed the oil it was very quite. I wonder if it was using a thicker oil?
I am thinking about trying mobil 1 0W-40 to quite it down. My question is, will it be too thick to run during winter where I live? Here are some specifics:
I make 4 very short trips a day. ( 2 trips less than 2 miles, 1 trip 3 miles, and 1 5 mile trip. )
I try to take it on a 70 mile round trip every 1 to two months to get rid of any moisture in the oil.
I live in north central PA where the temps can get pretty cold in the winter. Lowest I remember is -36F with the average probably being 0F to 15F during the middle of winter for the lows.
Will the 0W-40 be too thick for winter? I am sure it will be fine for summer but I would like to run it year round. What do you think?
