Mobil 1 0W-40 & Jeep 4.0

I'm thinking if using the Mobil 1 0W-40 in my Jeep Wrangler this winter. I'm currently running Mobil 1 10W-30. I know that the 10W-30 doesn't have the best wear numbers when used in this engine. I wanted to see if anyone had used the Mobil 1 0W-40 in this engine with good results. By the way it's a 2005 with ~12K on it. Another option I'm considering would be Amsoil's European Car Formula Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil. Thanks.

You can search the UOA section. I think there was one 0W40 one there on a 4.0 and it looked pretty good. There are several with 5W40 which are also good.
There are also some really nice ones using non-synthetics. I remember decent ones with Havoline and 10W30 and a very good one with Castrol HM 10W40.

I've seen no difference between the Mobil 1, 0w-40 and their 10w-30 when it comes to wear rates, or durability in service.I'd suggest the Castrol 0w-30, European Formula if you want something off the shelf for this engine.

The best Amsoil product for cold weather performance and fuel efficiency would be their Series 2000 formulation. I'd tend to run this instead of the low SAPS version of the Amsoil 5w-40,which I think has a fairly weak add pack.

Did you look at UOA's here? Mobil 1 10W30 iron wear for this engine is much more than 0W40 and 5W40. In fact, it's more than most of the conventional 10W30's.

I've ran M1 0W40 in my Jeep with no complants. It seems to be good stuff. One I have not tried but has had favorable mention in the past is Syntec 10W40. Not the BC 5W40 just the regular Syntec 10W40.

GlennV I would use a 5W40 instead of a 0W40 in that engine. While I like M1 0W40 and use it often myself I think it is not going to be the best bet for this engine. I would try Rotella-T Synthetic 5W40.

My 4.0 1995 Jeep was sold at 196,000 miles running Mobil 1 10w30 & PureOne filter since the first oil change. Only oil related problems was a rear main engine seal (replaced at 90K & 170K. I think Mobil 1 Xw40 or the new 5w30 Truck & SUV oil would be even better.
