how do you think Mobil 1 0w40 would perform in a 5.3 Vortec v8 with 136000 miles compared to Mobil 1 high mileage 5w-30. the truck is not run easy but not wide open all the time

M1 5-30. 0-40 will not give your engine more life. I know folks that use M1 5-30 in the Chev 5.3 and have run 300K+. However trans are the bigger issue for Chev trucks.

yep, that must be why we just sold one with half a million miles on it.

But for the OP: We run dozens of these all over Florida. When they get tired or use oil we switch to Maxlife. Rarely do you need or want a 40w oil in one of these engines...

I think Mobil 1 HM 5W30 will perform great in your application. I highly doubt you will find a better oil for your vehicle for year round use in Ohio...

This was when the original tranny failed. They made the mistake of buying a re-build kit. Its been a few months and its already jerking and not wanting to climb or tow...

The Mobil 1 HM 5w30 should be lighter at all temperatures than the Mobil 1 0W40. 0w40 has an HTHSV of 3.8 while high mileage 5w30 is 3.3.

If you want to make a nice 0w30 try blending 2 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0w20 into 3 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40

Your engine should have a 6 quart capacity, but 2 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0w20 will thiniout 4 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 pretty well too and boost the VI but you can use 2.5 quarts of 0w20 to 3.5 quarts 0w40 if you want to keep it lighter.

+1

I love how these advertising terms end up in layman speak but are essentially meaningless. To the OP why is the engine run wide open all the time? What are you doing with it?
Mudder? IN the old days you could substitute a quart or two of M1R4t superbike oil in your engine sump of M15w30 or Formula Shell 5w30 - back when it was the best syn they ever formulated in the pre VISOM days - but alas, the formula for 4T has changed.

M1 5w30 HM is a great oil for your application. It has the same amount of zddp as M1 0w40, so the wear protection would be equivalent. The GM LS engine doesn't need 40-weight for street use.
