I ran castrol gtx 10W-40 in my 5.0 powered '87 mustang during the winter this year. I only ended up putting a few hundred miles on it though since I have another daily driver. Now that it is summer and getting very hot out (today it was 98* with 92% humidity) I drained the oil and poured in 4 quarts of GTX 20w-50. I didn't change the filter so that leaves me with a mixture of 1 quart 10w-40 and 4 qaurts 20W-50. Any problem with that???

nope...dun round here all the time ..you even have the same type from the same blender (the preferred manner of mixology) Flexblend® ..the oil that's right for every season..... blended by you... the end user.

No problem with mixing 1 quart of oil left in the filter. I do the same thing all the time with my Vette, since I change the filter every other oil change.

How many miles do you have on your 5.0 ??
I had a 1990 LX 5.0 and I used a 50/50 mix of Havoline 10w30 and 15w40 Delo 400.
