Mixing 5w20 with what to get 5w30?

Yeah mix them 50/50 you'll get a nice 0w30 about 10.85 cst or go up to 60% Mobil 1 if you want a thicker 30 grade possibly in the upper 0w30 range also, which would be about 11.33 cst.

It's possible you will end up with a 5w30 but with excellent cold flow properties regardless since it would be on the border of 0w30/5w30. Hard to tell exactly with the visc calc, but the KV100 can be determined very well with the calculator.

Edit, i just noticed you want to make a 6 quart sump with 5 quarts of the 5w20, you will want something super thick to accomplish this like a good mineral 20w50 or 15w50.

1 quart of M1 15w50 will get you barely into the light 5w30 range with a 9.87 cSt visc.

Well pretty much anything you mix with the M1 0w40 will end up in the 30 grade range since its a lighter 40 grade with as little as 1 quart all the way up to 4 quarts of the 6 quart sump. Just play with the visc calc i linked to you.

The Mobil Super Syn 5w20 has a KV 100 @ 8.8
M1 0w40 is 13.5
Redline 60 WT is 22.5

You can play with anything if you find the KV100 or KV 40.

If you want to get rid of all 5 quarts in 1 dump, try a quart of Redline 60 WT which has a KV 100 @ 22.5 but is still full synthetic. Should mix nice with that 5w20 and the resulting mix will be about 10.2 cSt where most 5w30s end up.

You can get it in single quarts on the web

T6 5w40 will yield a similar mix but play around with it in the visc calc, it is slightly thicker at 14.2 KV100 and 87 KV40 making it thicker at all temperatures.

I have a closet of both 5w20 and 10w40. The 5w20 is left over from another vehicle I sold and the 10w40 was a $1.25qt clearance deal. I run it in my old Subaru without issue. 60% of the 8.8 5w20 + 14.5 of the 10w40 puts me in the middle of the 5w30 world.

Yes a 10w40 would be a good choice except you would end up with a possible 10w30 which might not be ideal for cold flow.

If you can get M1 0w40, i don't see any reason to go for something that might be more expensive or the same price, but if you had it on hand or could get it for cheap it would work.
