509ci, iron head, big block chev, 13.7:1 compression ratio, loaded 5000-7000 rpm, start drag run at 140F water temp taken at top of the intake manifold.

Have 35 psi oil pressure at 1200 rpm - going to 65-75 psi at anything over 3000 rpm. Previously used Torco 10W30 conventional oil at request of engine builder.

I'd like to run Esso XD3 0-30 synthetic oil - given the low initial water temp and the good oil pressure I had with the conventional oil.

Torco typically has high levels of moly and tin (from what I read here) - MPZ formula - can I sustitute the XD3 and still provide the same engine protection?

I have no local Torco dealer (Canada) and have cases of the XD3 for my our daily van and car. Is an additive (sold in Canada) package suggested for the XD3?

I kept this out of the racing section since it really isn't that stout a package and has a reasonble low rpm range / soft ramp roller camshaft.

Please lend a hand with this street / strip combination.

The syn base oil itself will offer some protection, decreasing the need for the torco's stout additive package.

If you want syn and a similar additive package, maybe you should look at redline? It seems tailored to your kind of setup.

Since your engine turns 7,000 rpm I would say it has high pressure valve springs. I would recommend an oil with very high antiwear additives to protect the cam and valve train.

Redline comes to mind right away as a choice oil for this application. We have a site sponsor that makes an additive called SX-UP that would also be a good idea that you could add to any good oil. The company is Specialty Formulations and they are listed under site sponsors. I am fuessing it can be shipped to Canada. Some guys have have been useing Valvoline Synthetic Engine Additive that comes in a Platnium colored bottle. It has a lot of antiwear additives and might be available at Walmart of AUtoZone!

I think contacting Speciality Formulations is going to be the best way to go!!! If need be the owner can blend a product to meet you specific needs if he think it is needed!

785hp sounds pretty stout to me Mat!

Welcome aboard!

Yup - 4.5" bore Mark IV bowtie block - pretty simple small port, under .700" valve lift, low-piston speed bracket motor.

Except for the rolling exhaust note - very cruisable combination. (good fuel, of course!)

Have an 04 GTO LS1 putting 400 to the rear wheels.....loves that Amsoil 0-30....can't speak for the GC 0-30 yet....I have it in the crank now...so far so good though....but I can speak to the Amsoil 0-30.....I do have a oil cooler...temps never see anything past 180 degrees even after hard runs.....

This is great stuff - I should bring a pen/paper down to parts connection / walmart / Canadian Tire and write down all my options that are over-the-counter.

I've been burned at customs before with simple orders that cost large $$$ after they clear.

If you want to use Esso XD3 0-30 synthetic oil, I like JohnBrowning's suggestion of using Specialty Formulation's SX-UP additive. Maybe MolaKule can advise better.

509 CID = 4.5 Bore x 4.0 Stroke ?
