Milwaukee M12 Surge and multi tool

Research these tools before dropping any coin. These two do not seem to be very good, honestly I would have a hard time dishing out $60 for them.

I have no other experience with hydraulic impacts besides Milwaukee and they have been great. Less wrist vibration. Very quiet. The battery seems to last longer too.

My only gripe with the multi tool is you need a hex wrench to change the blade whereas a Dewalt you do not.. it has a spring loaded lever.

I put up several floating shelves, garage wall items, and repaired a few power tools with the bottom of the barrel 2401-20 m12 hex screwdriver, extremely handy. It can be had for under $50 on Amazon. Also, Waitley m12 batteries are good knockoffs.

What does a non-Fuel M18 oscillating tool have to do with the M12 Fuel Surge impact?
The offer was for a impact driver and the multi tool. Both the M12 and M18 share the same motor connection issue on the multi tool and the hydraulic mechanism is identical in both on the impact but the M12 is even less powerful than the M18 which is under powered compared to the Dewalt. The impact seems like it was a rush job to compete with the Dewalt hydraulic, the next gen may be better.

A good deal for sure, although the whole “surge” thing seems like a gimmick. My son is a contractor and uses m12 impacts all day every day and has nothing but praise. I’ve got a few m12 tools, ratchet, 3/8 impact and my personal favorite, m12 right angle grinder. As much brake work as I do all 3 come in handy quite often. I bought a fuel 18 circular saw and non fuel impact driver and hammer drill as well as sawz all. No complaints about any of them.

The Surge was out well before Dewalt. I believe the OG hydraulic impact was actually Makita.

Guys, we're talking about price point tools. Though they carry a milwaukee name, nobody is going to expect they compete with a $300+ professional grade tool. But for your joe blow homeowner, good value.

My M12 Surge runs circles around my co workers M12 Fuel Brushless. Ultimately, the M18 is where it’s at, but I wanted something compact and light when the need arose.
I meant the m12 surge fuel, but I wonder if your buddy's impact is broken or the non fuel model.
the m12 fuel impact driver is 1350in-lb the m18 surge is 450 in-lb.

my regular m12 non-fuel non-surge is pathetically weak for anything you need an impact driver for.
it only got 1/4" lag screw about 1" into my stud before pooping out.
broke out the bosch brushed super old impact driver and it was fully done in about 5s.
(hanging a Tv mount on wall)

From what I recall one of the main SURGE benefits is lower noise/vibration
. A buddy had the m12 surge fuel and I thought it was pretty good.
not to the level of recent 18v models but very usable on small(er) lag screws, deck screws etc.
never used a m12 fuel non surge personally.

The surge is not to replace regular impact drivers. Its very much a nicer tool to use if it has enough power.

Edit: fixed some mistakes/typo/clarify.
