Microsoft GPS App Controversy

Only someone who is looking for something racist would directly correlate the ghetto with black people and the fact that the app steers you away from the ghettos where mostly black people live as racist. No one really wants to get caught in the wrong side of town... Even the site has a poll on is it racist or not, 88.4% no, 11.6% yes.

Google's approach was to simply put a warning on every page that says to be aware of your surroundings.
 
Seems like a useful tool. If google maps offered a layer (which is what google maps uses - like an overlay) of crime data, similar to their traffic or topographical overlay, I'd appreciate that.
