Will a spin on oil filter catch any possible metal particles that could be on the threads of the new filter itself? Id never thought about this but someone mentioned it in a post. I have a stash of Baldwin filters for my car. I opened one and ran my fingers over the threads and sure enough i picked up a tiny metal flake on my finger. Having just changed my oil and putting on a new filter a couple days ago now im a bit paranoid as i did not check the threads of that filter. Was just curious if this can likely cause an issue or would the filter catch it?

The threads are technically on the clean side of the media, but the oil pressure is acting to push debris towards the dirty side, so the risk of thread particles getting on the clean side of your oil is vanishingly low.

And that would be typical of the manufacture being full of morons, that don't know what the meaning of the word clean is. There is zero excuse for that, its so easy for them to clean those threads, but then since some of those high tech oil filter manufactures have their employees sitting on dirt floors assembling them what else would you expect? :ROFLMAO:

I always take a paper rag and turn the filter upside down (so any particles/contaminants are pulled down and away by gravity) and just using my finger clean the threads. Pretty normal in my experience to have a generous amount of metal dust left on the rag, and of course some manufacturing oil/film.
Edit: Just now Saw Hirev's Post.

Maybe it was a brand of filter owned by First Brands where workers could see the handwriting on the wall and just did not care any more?

How often do you find anything? What brand filter? What brand toothbrush!
I have started using a thread chaser, and often find issues on most brands. I haven't used First brands in years, but the reason I started using the chaser was in fact first brands.

Doubtful one piece of debris kills an engine, but who knows?

I just run the chaser then put a shop vac on the hole, one last wipe with a paper towel.
