I was on a plane stuck in DC and the stewardess indicated the ground crew was having a tough time closing one of the cargo doors. The woman in front of me appeared to be very annoyed. I was on no particular time sched but perhaps she was. All i could think was "What do you expect them to do other than continue working on it?"
 
Maybe they could disconnect the switches so the doors appear closed... a problem for the ground crew at destination... I think she might have preferred that....
 
I'd rather know its locked. You don't want it to open in flight. It should have a mechanical indicator too though.
 
When I was a crew chief in the Air Force, SOP was to stick a small amount of chewing gum under a loose rivet during a pre-flight check just to get one more mission in. Of course, that rivet would be entered into the maint. log during the post-flight inspection so we could get the sheet metal guy out to replace the rivet.
