Could be, I can't check since the car is in storage. It was def no copper washer though!

You own my dream mustang.
The oil pan can hold 7 quarts. Its funny. The oil pan never changed on that model mustang however the early ones call for 6 quarts. The dipstick changed when they spec'd the extra quart.
I know that engine inside and out.
The shavings could be cams,bearings or chain guides. Get the stethoscope out and listen for abnormal noises.

Can't listen to it unfortunatly, it's in storage till march. Yeah the oil capacity recommendations are all over the place on these cars.
I saw a write up on the oil capacity on these engines once. The guy had the pan off and filled it with like 9 or 10 quarts. It still wasn't running over. I see guys running 7 qts all the time with good results.
yeah saw that too, doubt running the 6.8qt I did hurt anything.
My father was an executive w Ford for 20yrs, and was one of the folks in charge of that generation Mustang development team. I will ask him next time I see him if he would not mind calling a buddy of his who was one of the guys in charge of the SVT V8 development, and see what he thinks.
