Mercedes Benz "new strategy"

The infotaimnent screen takes some getting used to, especially for "adults" (whatever that means). Kids naturally take to the screen, right away. It is intuitive. I find our 2 Lexi overly complicated after driving the Tesla. There is beauty in simplicity.
Notice the microphone icon under the car; you touch it to activate the voice controls. Or the right button on the steering wheel (to the right of the center T).
To changet the temp I say, "Set the temperature to 74." Or say, "I'm cold" or "I'm hot."
You might learn where all the controls are on your own vehicles, maybe even get to muscle memory. What happens when you get into a rental or someone else's car? Software driven controls offer consistancy. Welcome to the future.

Having said this, these cars are not for everyone. You may not like the word futuristic, but that's what it is.
The one thing I don't like is the blind spot monitors on the screen. On the mirrors is far better.
"Software driven controls offer consistancy".....they do? Really then why is it, with the 6 plus applications I use for my job.....nothing matches up from one program to the next. If anything, turning a knob is a heck of a lot more intuitive than some stupid icon on a screen. And yes, kids of do take to the screen. Bet those little losers couldn't set the heat in a older car....lol. I am not impressed that you live and work in Silicon Valley....what do you think the rest of us never use computers.....jeez. We are stuck with the same poorly written software some of you out there have created.

We can do either a knob or a touch screen, we don’t really care 😉

2 things:
  1. Tesla's dominant position in tech. Everybody else struggling to get into the race.
  2. Tesla's dominant market cap, aka shareholder's wealth. CEOs answer to shareholders. Actully, everybody does.

I guess that's 1 thing.
By the way, this isn't a Tesla answer; it is a business answer.

When I can watch porn while driving 150 mph I will buy one maybe.
I think you can now. Never understood why people wanted the DVD player to work while driving. There's a defeat option out there you can buy that will enable it while you're driving. At least for Mercedes.

Funny thing about the recurring customers -- most people I know that own Mercedes, it's their third, fourth, fifth one. A friend's mom is on her sixth or seventh MB station wagon. She can't get enough of the E-series wagons. Loves the darn things. Luxury car buyers - the ones that can *actually* afford to buy and maintain the cars - seem more brand loyal.

I know a couple where the husband will only drive a BMW 7 series, the wife will only drive a Lexus GX. They've been like that for as long as their daughter can remember.
The current business model is to lease their new cars for 2 or 3 years then put them in another new MB. People who can afford new MB's know not to own them out of warranty. Once they are out of warranty, the dealers rape their customers.
And they don't have Pick-up trucks to make a lot of profit on. As for their sub-brands, they are unaffordable for most. So I guess they are talking about ripping off rich people more than they do now.
I'm one who takes my chances on 4-5 yr old MB's because they are the most comfortable vehicles I've ever owned. And they are just plain Nice.

That's always the current thinking but I think people just prefer newer cars. Many people do buy the extended warranty which gives you 7/100k coverage. Probably by the time 7 years is up, they're ready for a new one. There are many stories of people who lease and end up buying the car back from the dealer at the end for 5k less than the residual. Don't know how that math works at Mercedes. And yes, they're nice when they're loaded which is how I like to buy the used ones. I also avoid going to the dealer, I only go for warranty work or for dealer specific items like firmware updates that an indy can't do.

Mercedes has by far the best dealership and service experience. They will bring you a car to drive for the day to do an oil change. Now, you do pay for that. Mercedes targets middle age well established people. Their leasing strategy is actually ingenious because their used cars sit right out in front of the dealerships, 3 years old, still in mint condition for a few grand less. They also make the world's fastest race cars so I don't think they are struggling.

Mercedes, Porsche, and Lamborghini service is amazing! Any time I take the bosses cars in for service, it is the full royaltreatment, and I don't even own the cars, just a personal assistant.
