"Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong province in China"

I had no idea they were constructing this plant there.

Well, when you've walked in Beijing, and can't see across the street from the thick, choking smog, you don't the need the media to tell you that China has a smog problem.

However, turning from coal to Nuke is a good move on their part.

And that's a cool turbine!

That's pretty much their MO. After their JV CANDU venture they are now manufacturing their own CANDU-esque reactor.

It's a brilliant business model really. While much of the world shuns the Nuclear industry, burying it in red tape and regulation (look at Vogtle) and spins its wheels goofing around with wind and solar, China provides a receptive market with the capital, manpower and process to get plants built on-time and on budget; a budget which is a fraction of what it costs to build them elsewhere.

China will then, as they have, develop their own indigenous reactor families, shamelessly based on these joint ventures and export them. This will result in them dominating the nuclear industry by providing modular reactors of all sizes that can be shipped anywhere and installed.

It's worked extremely well for their solar industry, making them the dominant player, and they are probably the largest manufacturer of wind turbine components. They play the entire market with the goal of complete domination of all industries.

Well considering China now graduates 2x the engineers than the US.....perhaps it's time we reverse course and start stealing from them. Seriously, think about this. China has 4x the talent pool to choose from for their engineers. Common sense would tell you that 4x the talent pool means they can be MORE picky as to who attends engineering college. We are up against a serious competitor here...our only hope is that the "planned economy" of China will probably trip them up.

Korea does similarly...to build something there, you have to "knowledge share" the construction with locals.

I know of one instance where two separate world player's patents for exactly the same issue were both violated in one rebuild (Oh, and the rebuild was messed up into the bargain)

Very good at writing contracts as well - bid low and then profit with dozens of Change Orders ...
