You sir, are a masochist. One Holiday, maybe it was the Superbowl. I came up on Neponset Circle . It was empty. After 30 yrs of crawling in that stretch, I threw caution to the winds and ran at an even hundred up to Columbia Rd. The only real advantage to a manual is that you can lug it down to nearly a stall, to prevent wheel slip in snow. I learned it long ago driving bugs. About 5yrs ago,my son bought a 533i that he couldn't drive because it was a 5 spd.. He taught himself to drive it and it is a great running old car. That coupled with a jaunt in my brother's '10 Tacoma strippah gave me a yen for a manual. Hence the Rat having a stick. Jarlaxle try a stick on Beacon Hill or Comm ave Fuhgheddit! Been there, done that I'm sure it help to junk my left knee.

I have done Beacon Hill. (One place I go to is at 32 Myrtle St.) I am on Comm Ave every week. (I'm in Allston tomorrow.) I'm in Eastie every week. I am on 128 every day.

Five years ago, 3 out of the five cars we owned were sticks.
Today, out of six cars, only one has three pedals.
I've always enjoyed driving a stick, but none of the automatics we've had over the years have been troublesome.
I'll take either and which is preferable depends upon driving conditions.
In highway driving, there is no advantage either way.
In traffic, it depends.
If the flow is reasonably open, you can often time the lights and avoid braking more easily with a stick.
If there is no flow and you have to go through miles of gridlock, an automatic is much easier on you and the car.
On open two lanes, a stick is far more entertaining.
I consider a stick a plus in any used car, which also usually brings a lower price since so many people have never learned to drive one.

Im buying an Accord Sport sedan with manual transmission at the end of this year.
I really don't like automatic or CVT transmissions.

I'm fine with automatics that will downshift on command and hold the gear at least until redline.

I think I'll always want a toy around that has a manual gearbox, but I don't mind an automatic for more pedestrian driving duties.
