Mahle KC 6/31. Common spin on main filter for MB diesels. This one is from my 93 300D which has rust in the tank that catches in the 20um prefilter. It is a few years old, and has about 15k miles.
Full disclosure, I left it outside for a while with a rubber glove over the top, but water definitely got in.
I’m very intrigued on its cleanliness. I wonder if the inside is the “dirty” side. That would explain why it looks so good.
These filters don’t have drains. Supposedly they have water rejecting media that lets it collect at the bottom. No sensor to know it’s there though. I was surprised to see the spring in there, though I guess it’s really just to keep media pressure.
Still surprised that it is clean when the fuel system is rusty.
