Microsoft Office 2003 does not work, but that's been broken since Mountain Lion...

My question is, does it turn on 64 bit processing by default?
I've had that enabled for a while....

Neat... I think. All our macs are new enough... Why wouldnt I want to do this? Whats the catch?

No catch. They're out to spank Microsoft. They even used Win8 Pro at $199 in the Apple event today as the 'bad guy' for charging so much for an OS.

Wow, $199? Even when I bought a plain, standalone copy of OSX 10.7.5 on a memory stick, it was only $69.

They never had a 2003 version for OS/X, that was for Windows.

Editions for OS/X:

2004
2008
2011

I'm running 2011 on Mavericks with no issues so far. Been testing on seven Macs of every flavor since the end of June.

64-bit has been turned on by default a long time ago. Open your application monitor almost every single app I have is 64-bit except of course Office....

The improvements to finder (finally) are worth that alone! Mostly just more polish however the power management features for the MacBooks is a really nice touch.

When the manufacturer of a product I use releases an update, I update to receive the latest bug fixes, improvement, etc.

When that manufacturer releases a new product, one can only hope that it's better then the last, so it's silly not to upgrade.

My 2013 MacBook Air is my first Mac. I like Mountain Lion OS and hope that Maverick will be an improvement. I just finished downloading it and am installing as I write this... On my new iPhone 5S in GOLD!

Yes, but usually the manufacturer will provide updates within the product itself, e.g. 10.7.4 to 10.7.5. Going to an entire new version (e.g. 10.7.5 to 10.9 in my case, or say, Windows XP to Windows 7 for my work computer) generally costs money. That's why Im a bit surprised...

Mouse scrolls backwards....
Epson Scan is not working, Epson is working on a fix...

Display is much sharper, and computer is quicker...

That is probably fixable. That was first offered in Mountain Lion, a more "natural" scrolling direction. I hated it, and turned it off.

Did you upgrade from Mountain Lion, or from another version?

not sure how this could be...

Well, nice that they have released Mavericks. Now will Apple update iWork, Aperture, and iLife? An operating system is sort of useless unless you have productivity applications. And hopefully when I update my scanner and printer will still work.

Upgraded from 10.6, Snow Leopard...

Looking at the Desktop, icons are sharper, color is brighter.

They may have shifted from a Desktop display of 256 colors...

iWork and iLife have both been reworked on iOS and OS X.

Also, they're now free for both platforms... but only for those who purchase new hardware. Good for those picking up a new iPhone, iPad, or Mac, not so much who already own them.
