This may not mean anything but I was comparing a bottle of SJ M1 that I still have for some reason and a bottle of the new SM. On the back of the Tri-Synth forumula where is states where all the standards it meets (European etc) it lists that it meets Japanese Valve train wear.......new bottles of M1 do not state this. Anyone want to shed some light on this? Were they forced to discontinue saying this? [I dont know] Goose [Patriot]

IIRC the JASO wear tests are integrated into the API performance classifications. Thus, to state both would be redundant (though perhaps good marketing).
