First time running a 30 grade in this engine. Didn’t think it was necessary, but I hadn’t seen a VOA or UOA of this oil. So, why not?

Blue line is the VOA for this oil. So, only 4ppm iron during this run of 8k miles.

Viscosity took a hit due to 2.5% fuel and the 0.75 qts residual from my previous 0w20 run. No make-up added, but it did drop from the full mark to about half way down to the low mark.

I used one of the dreaded leaky Fram Endurance filters during this OCI. Also, using a factory Honda air filter.

Previous runs:
#1 - Mobil 1 EP 0w20
#2 - Motul 0w20 (VW 508 00, 509 00, Porsche C20)

Thanks for sharing this is the first UOA of M1 Euro FS 5w30 that I've seen. Report looks good. Results are pretty consistent aross the board. You can see the higher detergent level of the FS 5w30 compared to the previous oils used. TBN is solid. (y)

At 280k miles and reports like this, personally I'd never drop another dime on a UOA unless you start to see coolant loss. Run a tank or two with a good PEA cleaner, go give it a good 25-30 minute drive on the highway while not in OD to get the oil good and hot before sampling. (y)

I figure it’s about $60/year for UOA’s, and I look forward to it, so I’ll prob continue to run them.

This sample was taken after a 300 mile highway trip. I have some Redline fuel system cleaner I’ll run before the next oil change. Thanks!

Per OP: “used one of the dreaded leaky Fram Endurance filters during this OCI.”

Is this a known thing? I just bought a couple, thinking they were the very best out there.

BTW, obviously, this oil did fine, and in Texas probably not a concern that it is so thick. A non-Euro 0w-30 or 5w-30 might do fairly well too, with viscosity still above OEM recommendation. And you can get at Walmart prices…did you find this Euro M1 at Walmart?

I did the same as you. Figured the FE or Amsoil twin were the best out there, so I bought several of them. Sounds like the media is the bee’s knees. But, that doesn’t help if some of the oil bypasses said media. There are better and worse examples of these filters. Newer batches being the worst.

AFAIK, no responses from anyone who has reached out to Fram. So, you’ll have to make your own decision as to whether this is a big deal, or not. Some say it’s fine, others say it’s unacceptable. It is obviously filtering oil and not fully bypassing, as I’m sure my UOA would look at least a little different.

Good to see a nice UOA with an FE on for 8k. Did you happen to get the date code on the filter?

I’ve not seen M1 FS 5W30 Euro for sale before at WM - how many M1 5W30 Euro oils are there (lol ) ?

No way a euro 30 is thick in a K24 engine. If anything 20 is thin.
20 to 40 in the book outside U.S.

Just this one and ESP that I know of. Haha

Yeah, I picked it up from Walmart. But, my store didn’t keep it in stock. I had to order it from the Walmart site.
