Hey to everyone
grin.gif
... I have been hanging around this site for a long time and finally racked up enough miles on my Camaro SS to have an oil anaylsis performed to see how my motor is holding up.

First off I do not want to hear that I should leave the oil in longer
wink.gif
. I know it can but I only drive the car 4 or 5 times a month so it does not get many miles over time and I like to change the oil twice a year just to get under the car and look around.

My driving habits with this car are severe service e.g. high revs, general rough handling on the street, and track time. On this oil sample I made over 16 1/4 mile passes and many wide open highway runs. Mods to the car have been an air lid, cat-back, and SFC.

This LS1 seems to be holding up well... It does not use ANY oil and has never knocked or rattled on start up or any other time for that matter.

Any who... let me know what you think about my Blackstone report!

Incredible report. One of the best UOA's on the LS1 to date. Wouldn't change a thing. This rivals Patman's GC UOA.

Guess what -- you should leave the oil in longer!

Since apparently you've been lurking here for a while, you should be familiar with some of the results in the UOA section. You could leave a quality dino in your car for 3k and not even be close to having a problem. This is 2004, not 1954!

Beyond generalities, let's look at your numbers. While you apparently didn't get a TBN, all other indications are that you're oil isn't even close. And since it's M1, which has great TBN retention, I'm confident it's still well up there. Lead, aluminum, and tin, the usual bearing suspects are all at or barely above zero. You've got a little iron, but hey, it's only a tad more than was showing up in new GC (at least in early batches). Heck, you don't even have elevated copper from a GM V-8! Tell you what, next time you decide to dump your oil, drain it carefully and put it in a jug. I'll have FedEx come and take it off your hands (and put it straight into mine!!!). I don't think this oil is 1/3 of the way to used up.

I don't mean to encourage reckelessness, but your hard driving is simply not very hard from the persepctive of your engine. Seriously, though, you can keep driving as you have been without fear that you're grossly damaging your engine.

And, BTW,

Oh yeah, I forgot. The one thing that is climbing pretty fast on you is the insols. Still not bad, but if they are on a linear climb, they might become an issue at around 6k. You might consider trying some other filters or LC.

Thanks for the welcome!

I know the oil is not used hardly at all, but it gives me something to do twice a year under the car to see how other things are holding up and it is not that high of a cost to me personally.

The main componet I am even slightly worried about breaking is my rear end, I know these LSX engines can care less about the abuse I am thowing at it.

Nice UOA. I might try this oil in my 98 Chevy 4.3

Looks like its holding up real well, but I would keep on the change cycle anyway, given how much it sits, etc.

It looks like my prediction of 5W40 for these engines adn most engines in general is working out great! Now if we could just get GM to put a Delvac-1 label under the hood!!

Not quite, but it is very good. Mine still has lower wear numbers, even with higher miles on the oil.

With 5k on my last UOA, here was my wear from my LS1 Corvette:

Iron 8
Lead 1
Copper 2
Aluminum 3
Chromium 0
Silver 0
Titanium 0
Nickel 0
Tin 0

I had lots of quarter mile runs and 10 dyno runs on that run too, plus tons of WOT on the street.

But that doesn't mean you need to switch to GC 0w30 like me, this oil you're using is doing very well, so there is no need to change anything (although I still think you could go with one year intervals instead of doing it twice per year)

Outstanding report!

I like this oil and I will use it in my 02 LS1 next OCI.....although I can't find justification for it over a good dino HDEO!
