This is the latest from my '04 Ford Ranger w/ 3.0 V6. I ran it naked. I use FP60 regularly. No oil was added and I use paper air filters and Motorcraft oil filters.

Left Column is the naked M1 OCI 7400 miles, 30k total on truck. Right column was last UOA w/ Amsoil 5w30 dosed w/ LC20 and a 7750 mile OCI.

I like what I see. The truck is run hard with hauling loads, towing, and lots of stop and go traffic.

What time frame was the oil in for each time. 6 mo. 1 yr. It looks like you knew when to drain although it may have gone longer.

Good post. Bettter values with a lighter oil. Some it is probably die to breakin. Some fuel dilution, and the lead is higher, but with towing, etc....nice.

That's good to see, since I have an 03 Ranger with the same engine. At 9,000 mi. I switched from Havoline dino to Mobil 1 with a Pure One oil filter and at 19,000 mi. I again put Mobil 1 and a Pure One filter in it. I now have 23,000 mi. on it and will have Blackstone do a UOA at 29,000 mi. when I again change the oil and filter. If you got any comments by the testing lab for either of your two analyses, would you please post them?

Last time w/ the 5w30 Terry told me to run a 5w20 to enjoy less wear and better economy. The Amsoil was my second run with it and it didn't do as well the first UOA which was naked. The second run w/ LC20 was a big improvement.

This OCI Terry told me was a big improvement over the last but I still have high lead. The trend down is good but is something he wants to monitor. Other than that he reccomended using LC20 2 oz per quart and 1 oz per 1000 miles. Terry also suggested I use a higher end oil filter like a K&N which he says bypasses a lot less. All my UOA's were with Motorcraft FL400S filters. He said sample at 7500 next time but don't drain it to see if we can run it longer.

BTW the truck runs great on this oil. I did not notice much of an increase in economy but I already do pretty well there. I get 24-25mpg w/ 50/50 driving in an extra-cab w/ oversize tires and keeping my speed reasonable.

LubeOiler,

Both were aproximately 6 months, give or take a week.

Al, I was reluctant at first to run a 5w20. You can call me a convert.

Is this truck-engine combination underpowered? Do underpowered cars or trucks need an exotic motor oil? 3.0 Vulcan has a reputation for good durability, and low power.

"Run a 5w-20 to enjoy less wear" Why, if 5w-30 has a better HT/HS number does 5w-20 do a better job.

I say run a 5w-20 and synthetic in the tranny and diff. to enjoy the best power.

Run the Amsoil without the LC and I think you'll see less bearing wear. I'm not convinced that LC helps in this regard, especially in higher doses.
