M1 5W - 40 SUV & Truck Oil

Yesterday, I scored some of the old stock M1 5W - 40 SUV & Truck oil at the local WalMart for $3.50 on the clearence rack. I know that this particular M1 oil is not on the VW approved list, but I am willing to give it a go for my 1.8T Passat.

Anybody else using this oil in a VW turbo application?

I'm aware of others who have used it in the VW 1.8T engine, without issue. Your Passat's engine will do fine on this oil.

p.s. I'm a VW 1.8T owner, too.

Mine is a '00 GTI 1.8T. I love the engine; I just wish everything else on the car was as reliable.

I agree with you observation on the 1.8T engine. Having said that, I had my car into VW this week for the latest recall campaign.

You will be fine. I used that oil in my Audi TT 225 QR. No problems. As a matter of fact, it ran very well and quiet on that oil.

Note: M1 Truck & SUV is the same as Delvac 1
