M1 5W-30 / 15W-50 mixing recommendation???

I think "wide spread" oils(0w-40,5w-50,10w-60)are almost a fad. I've used them myself in the past before I knew what VII's were. I'd rather let the base oils natural VI fall where it may. That's why I think a oil(5w-40suv) or mix of oils(5w/10w-30 & 15w-50) with a reasonable VI is better. I believe the 0w-40 has a VI of 187, that's ALOT of VII.

My mind might change before then, but now I think that when I do get a C5, I'm going to try the first interval with Mobil 1 5w30, then do the next interval with a 50/50 mix of 15w50/5w30, and then go to GC (if they still sell it here by then)

My current plan is to get a C5 (most likely a 97 or 98 model) in the summer of 2006, but it could be sooner if prices drop fast when the C6 hits the streets.

Any reason that you would use 5w/30 rather than 10w/30?

Simply because the 15w50 has such a thick viscosity when cold that I figured the 5w30 mixed in with it would give it a bit better "cold viscosity" than if I mixed in 10w30.

I like the idea of mixing 5W30 with 15W30. This way you may achieve the desired viscosity and still avoid all the VIs in the 0WXX oils.

Patman, sorry to say, but with the design of the C6 prices of the C5 are going to rise steeply!!

Who would want such an ugly bird as the C6???

Have you seen the blasphemy of a front license plate frame they are slapping onto the C6 now! You have to drill/punch three holes in the center of the front bumper.....
