Posted a failed 212A a few months ago from a buddy's silverado. This M1 212A is off another buddy's 14 Ford Explorer 3.5L V6 naturally aspirated.

Never held anything against these filters just bought them because my other favorite wasnt available at the time.

I'm glad this was a short change and not a 20k run on this filter.

Sad to see a tear. Glad I never bought those. IMO way too overpriced.

Thank You for cut and post? What went back on and in?

Whoa! I just commented on another discussion about M1 filters, that they always do well here. Now this.

I've got to ask, could you have caused the oblong hole, when you cut the filter open? That looks nothing like any filter media failure that we have ever seen here.

Also, is that long tear on the seam? It seems really unusual for filter media to tear on the outside folds. Most failures are on the inside folds.

I do not believe I damaged the filter opening it. It cut clean in the cutter and no damage was done to the can removing it from engine. 2nd question that is the start and end of the media glued together.

Was the glue line still intact? Of was there a full separation at the seam?

Never bought or used their filters, their popularity makes them a meme. Private label branding is a powerful marketing force for such a run of the mill filter. Nothing special.

Not super surprising IMO, when M1 made the change to the -A filters, the decrease in quality was easily apparent vs their older filters. You couldn’t give me the filters and pay me enough to use those -A filters on any vehicle I own or service. Thanks for the C&P confirmation!

I thought of using the M1 filters but with 10 Donaldson for the Focus’s and real wire backed older ULTRA’s why change it.

Looks like Purolator/M+H media tearing and end cap popping DNA getting into the M1s now.
won’t be another M&H filter on anything i work on unless it’s a boss but that’s my last resort when everything else is sold out.

Scary part is that glue on the center tube side can get loose and get into the main oil gallery. I find it odd that purolator isnt any kind of field vetting or quality control of the supplier glue.

That is concerning. There were glue pieces on the outside of the media but it does not appear to equal the approximate volume of glue missing from the center tube of the filter. Even worse, this would have been unnoticed if the end cap hadn't come apart to see it

These Mobil 1 filters aren't a very good value to begin with. That type of tearing is not just a Purolator problem either like some claimed.
