Mercedes Benz 5.5L (M275) V-12 Twin Turbo Mobil 1 0W/40 6,504 Miles Previous Blackstone comments: 04/10/13: There's really no bad news to report for this first sample from your S600's V-12. Metals look great here compared to universal averages, which are based on an oil run just half as long as your sample. Iron is exceptional considering the longer-than-average oil run, as usually longer runs leave more iron in the oil. The viscosity was half a shade low, but that wasn't the result of excessive fuel dilution and it's not hurting anything, so we wouldn't worry about it too much. No water or insolubles were found, and the TBN was solid at 3.2. Great engine and great report! 05/26/14: Another great report! You pushed a little longer on the oil this time around, so there were some slight increases in a few metals (chrome, iron, copper), but the other metals actually improved since last time. Since universal averages are based on ~4,400 miles of oil use, and you're getting better-than-average wear on a much longer oil run, we don't see any problems to report here! Your previous sample had a slightly low viscosity, but that's back in line this time, and the TBN is still strong at 3.3, so this oil can run longer. Try 11,000 miles next oil. Nice! Blackstone Comments: Thanks for the note about the oil life monitor. It looks like it sold you short this time because your engine's wear metals are close to the same levels we were seeing in the past. Copper was the exception since it dropped by about 50%, but that's not a metal that should track with oil use, so it's hard to say it read lower because of the shorter interval. Maybe brass/bronze parts are just wearing exceptionally well now. No matter, an improvement is always nice. The TBN was strong at 5.5, so try up to 9,000 miles again. The low viscosity is harmless.
