Just my two cents....
I have tried Lucas UCL, Gumout Regane, MMO and Amsoil PI. This is what has happened for me and yes they all have different application methods:
1) Regane is the only product so far to produce measurable MPG improvement from before to after.
2) Lucas UCL maintenance dose didn't provide any noticeable improvements.
3) MMO consistently provided very mild MPG reduction (.1-.3mpgs) and did nothing to quiet or smooth my already quiet and smooth engine.
4) Amsoil PI produced no measurable MPG improvement on one of my cars, the other is still in testing.
And to be fair, Lucas UCL was the only product that was used before Regane. My cars may have been cleaned well enough by Regane that MMO and Amsoil PI had nothing left to improve from a cleaning standpoint but MMO didn't provide any evidence of UCL benefits. I have tried all these over a 4 year period.
