Today I walked into my local Pilot gas station looking for Delvac 1 (saw none

), but I did see gallon jugs of Lucas 15w-40 oil. I wasn't aware that they made an oil, I thaught they just did additives. Anybody familiar with this? I kinda like their UCL but stay away from the additives. Thanks,

Charlie

I believe I have seen this stuff mail order from a major racing equipment vendor for a hair under $10/gallon.
Lucas has advertising on their site indicating their 15W40 is good for "twice the interval of regular 15W40s". The TBN is 14.0, flash point is 375 F, and it has a pour point of -15 Fahrenheit.
Viscosity at 100 C is 16, at 40 C is 130.

I assume it's legal to repeat their ad copy, so I will.
I found it at:

quote:

15/40 High TBN Truck Oil

Lucas high TBN 15/40 Truck Oil is a blend of high quality base oils and an additive package that allows extended drain intervals and a much higher degree of protection from metal to metal contact.

Lucas high TBN 15/40 Truck Oil is a blend of high quality base oils and an additive package that allows extended drain intervals and a much higher degree of protection from metal to metal contact.

The exclusive additive package in Lucas 15/40 insures a protective film on parts at all times. Also, the additive package is more resistant to break down from the solvents in diesel fuel than common additive packages found in regular 15/40 blends.

Motor oil is usually changed because its contaminated with combustion by-products, not because its worn out. The high detergent action of Lucas 15/40 allows up to twice as much contamination to be held in suspension and still have good lubrication qualities.
Key Benefits

* Extended drain intervals
* Lower operating temperatures
* Higher degree of lubricity
* Higher oil pressure

Packaging

* 10076 - 4 x 1 gallon
* 10077 - 1 x 5 gallon pail
* 10078 - 1 x 55 gallon drum

Yeah that's it. I remember seeing High TBN on the front of the bottle. Do yall think this is ok stuff? $10/gallon is a little more than what I was paying for my Delvac 1300.

But, it might be a sleeper.

You could always buy a bottle and spring for a VOA. That will tell you how its real world TBN and what you can see of the additive package look.

Just be aware that there are many organic compounds that dont show up in a cheap spectrographical analysis.
