I'm not happy with this report! My wife drives this mostly and it is not driven hard. Iron at 19ppm using GC and lube control is not exceptable! The only good thing I see is copper droped a bunch. Lead I feel is also to high and the flashpoint is pretty low! The TBN at 3.2 is also low for only 5,000 miles. It would have never made it to 10,000 miles.

The engine was rebuilt under warranty at 12,000 miles dut to oil burning and piston slap(dieseling). It still diesels but burns very little oil now(less then 8oz in 5,000 miles.

I'm at the point now that I'm starting to doubt that GC is a good choice for the engine!!!! I use Castrol GTX in my Tahoe 350 V8 and the wear is MUCH lower(Iron at 4ppm in 3k).

What can I do to get wear low? Thanks!!!

That is definitely odd with the iron being a bit higher like that. I only got 9ppm of iron in an 8k run with GC in my LS1 Corvette.

GC doesn't impress me as much as it once did. I think M1 SUV is as good IMO. Still a fantastic oil though. Was this the green or gold?

I agree. Your's is throwing out the same wear #'s as mine and I raced the crap outta mine. It's making alot more power than stock too boot. Go with a 40W of your choice and watch the #'s drop.

I would also drop the LC. No noticeable benefits in 5K intervals. IMO

I believe the diesel sound is piston slap, it sounds like a little diesel engine when it is cold. Lasts for a couple minutes.

I'm waiting for Terry's info on this one.

Tha car runs great and pulls hard I just wish I could get wear down. and I bought enough GC for several more oil changes.

My car is highly modified and I ran GC with Lube Control for 10,000 miles and the TBN was over 2. You should contact Terry Dyson and get a read from him.

..and I'll venture to say that if you use GTX in your LS1 that you'll still be disappointed.

I don't think you can blame the lubricant on your numbers. None of them look particularly stellar for the mileage.

I agree, contact Terry and he'll setup something to isolate the cause of this.

If it was mine, I'd see if my wife would swap vehicles for 5k and see if the results change. For all you know, she has an alter ego that emerges once she's out of your sight and out of the driveway ;^)

It sounds like a diesel at idle. It makes that clank, clank, clank, clank, clank sound a diesel makes. It is what I would call piston slap.

Anyone want to take a guess why the TBN is so low?

Get rid of the vehicle! Another reason why GM is headed for bankruptcy.

If you insist on keeping the ride, dump the adds and the GC. Then run a dino juice like Havoline or Chevron. I would then forget about UOA's since they will only create further turmoil for you and this ride.

Sometimes making things overcomplicated isn't a good thing.

You folks are describing piston slap...I am very familiar with it....or as it is called..."Like A Knock"......it is loud and bothers some....but it is not hurting anything...the piston skirts are too dad gum short and slap the cylinder walls....you should hear it amplified with Long Tube Headers:) To further the "noise" GM puts these clickety clack coils on there....mine quieted down substantially after the GM coils were replaced with 8 MSD ignition coils.....and we no longer blow the spark out at WOT....Get rid of it???!!!!! I don't think so...these things will flat out run.....Go with a 40 weight oil....these LS1's need a thicker oil than any 30 weight will give you.....

The car does run like a champ and there are not very many cars that are on this performance level. I love car and will keep it.

Could my air filter be to restrictive and be cauesinf fuel dilution? It is a Napa Gold.

Rebuilt at 12000 I too would trade it off at least the engine.I had a Chevy once never could get it to run right (engine).Good Luck

It used to burn oil like a lot of LS1's. After the rebuild it burns no oil. I think I'm still better off then when it was new.

It is much to fun to sell! I rapes just about everything it has gone against. Audi, Mustangs, BMW's but mostly ricers around here. I can put up with higher wear #'s Because of the performence it puts out. I will get the wear in check in time.
