We lost the key fob to Sue's RX 450h...
It can only be in a few places...
Lexus wants at least $350 to replace. Ouch!

Since this is a geeky kinda thing, is there some kinda geeky finder?
Or is it like early '60s Chevy keys where just about any one worked?

I appreciate your guidance.

Hey, I remember those early 60’s and 50’s ignition switches. The switch had three positions.

Off and locked. CCW

Off and unlocked. Key can be removed, or left in place. Center

On. Key not needed or key can be left in place. CW

You then started car with a separate push button.

IE, As long as you did not turn ignition switch all the way to the left (with key) you could turn ignition off and on without key.

My god, I must be old but I don’t remember if my first car had this System. (49 Chevy).

Although nothing to do with above, a friend had a 49 Buick Super (or was it a Roadmaster) that after you switched ignition on with key, you activated the starter by pushing gas pedal to the floor. (Starter “button” somehow connected to accelerator linkage.)

Give it a week and call some local locksmiths to see what they charge to replace a lost fob.

If you never find it, have all keys removed from the system and add only the ones you have.

Is your other Lexus vehicle a pushbutton start? Maybe one of its fobs could be added?

JeffKeryk,

You know what you need to do. Go on and do it right from the "go-start." ;)

Very happy here that none of my cars have electronic keys! I would echo calling a good local locksmith. Most of them at this point are equipped to deal with modern keys and likely would charge less than the stealership.

I am familiar with getting an aftermarket key and key fob for modern(?) cars.
I was just hoping, since this one is fancy electronic, maybe there is some kinda finder.
I hear hope is a lousy strategy...
