i want to assemble a comp for a friend. any recommendations on a list of specific parts that will work with no problems?he will only be using it for email, and work on the comp,no vide games.

If I were buying an economy computer today, Id buy an OTS HP slimline (7600???) or a mac mini.

I had a good idea of the hardware I wanted and an Ebay store had what I wanted much cheaper than I could have built it for. The best part was, I didn't have to buy windows like you do with a brand name.

so you could steal it instead???

Linux all the way. www.distrowatch.com. Feel free to download any flavour of linux you like absolutely free. Of course, donations are greatfully accepted. I'm using PclinuxOS at the moment.

I have at least $400.00 invested in Windows operating systems.

Are you absolutely set on building one, or would a lower-end model from Dell or HP fit the bill?

a p3 would be fine. lower end is fine. he wants to spend around 300 for a full system.
